Book Review // September 2022
I was busy hiking, paddling and wandering in the woods and deserts so my book count was a little low in September. And I’m okay with that.
“Love in the Time of Cholera” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
A big book with deep themes of love, dedication and family duty spanning 55+ years. The detail is lovely and the characters richly developed. Love, even in the face of adversity and even after many years still shines bright in each of us. I don’t consider myself a romantic so parts of the book had me doing a little eye rolling. Taking the book in context for the time and location was helpful in understanding situations that caused me to be annoyed. Totally worth a read as it is considered a classic and the author is a Nobel prize winner.
“Red Thread of Fate” by Lyn Liao Butler
Family, loyalty and betrayal. What an intense book with many twists and turns on two continents. Adoption, multigenerational homes and long kept secrets kept this book interesting. I loved that dogs and yoga classes were prominent in the book, that totally helped me to relate! A great book that had me rooting for and against the characters and loving them despite their flaws .
